Overview

To ensure a fair and efficient marketing support process, foundry partners are required to submit requests through the Marketing Request Form as of March 3, 2025. This process helps us review and plan promotions more effectively while ensuring equal opportunity across our foundry network.

To be considered, you must be on the latest distribution agreement. If you are not on the latest agreement, you can review and sign it by visiting the Foundry Platform agreements page.

Submitting a Marketing Request

Here is what you need to know before submitting a request:

Response Time

If your request is selected, you will receive a response within 5 to 7 business days. Due to the volume of submissions, we are only able to respond to requests that are chosen.

Request Limit

Each foundry may submit up to three marketing requests per month. This helps ensure fair access to marketing opportunities across all partners.

Selection Criteria

Submitting a request does not guarantee selection. We work with thousands of foundry partners and aim to feature a wide and diverse range of fonts. Requests are evaluated based on factors such as customer interest, alignment with current design trends, strength of visual assets, and adherence to pricing guidelines.

Our marketing team works closely with foundry partners to promote fonts on MyFonts.com through curated email campaigns and seasonal sales events. These efforts are designed to increase visibility, drive customer interest, and support font sales across the platform.

When planning an upcoming promotion, the marketing team may contact you to request permission to include one or more of your font families in a limited-time event. All outreaches will come from our official email address: foundrysupport@monotype.com.

Once you confirm participation, the marketing team will handle the setup of the promotion. This often includes creating or uploading event-specific imagery to align your fonts with the campaign theme.

Important Guidelines for Sales Participation

To ensure smooth execution and the best possible results, please follow these guidelines carefully:

Avoid overlapping discounts

• Make sure your font family does not have an active discount during the same period as the Monotype marketing event.
• If you already have a scheduled promotion, adjust the dates so it does not overlap with the event.
• After the event ends, you may resume your original discount.

If an overlapping discount remains active when the marketing team sets up the event, your existing discount will be removed so the event promotion can be applied.

Do not modify families before or during the event

Your fonts are selected based on their current pricing, imagery, and overall presentation. Changing these details can affect campaign performance.

• Change prices before the event begins. This also violates the 45-day pricing rule.
• Add new styles to the family after confirming participation. If you are planning new styles, let the marketing team know when you confirm so they can account for this in their planning.
• Upload bug fixes to font files at any time.
• Update descriptions or tags to correct errors or improve clarity.

Marketing email newsletters are promotional emails sent by Monotype’s marketing teams to customers who have opted in. These newsletters highlight fonts available on MyFonts, Fonts.com, Fontshop, and Linotype.com. Each site has its own newsletter style and content, tailored to its audience.

Customers can subscribe to these newsletters directly on each site.

How Fonts Are Selected for Email Newsletters

Font selection for marketing email newsletters is driven primarily by customer interest and performance data. The marketing team looks for families that are resonating with customers and performing well across Monotype platforms.

Key factors considered include:

• Strong sales performance, such as appearing in Hot New Fonts or Bestsellers
• Promotions that are already performing well
• Family packs that offer clear value and attractive pricing
• Conversion rate and page visits
• Image quality, especially images that show the font in use
• Alignment with current graphic design and typography trends

Email campaigns are most effective when they appeal to a broad audience. For example, customers are more likely to make an impulse purchase for a font priced under $50 than for one priced over $150. Pricing and overall value play an important role in selection.

If your fonts are performing well, have high-quality imagery, include at least one image showing the font in use, and are priced competitively, there is a good chance they may be considered for inclusion.

Please note that fonts selected for our marketing email newsletters can have a maximum discount of 30%. Additionally, fonts with family pack prices or a font with a single style price that is lower than $9 before or after a discount, are not eligible for inclusion in marketing emails. Our marketing team develops special marketing events to excite customers about fonts and drive sales across our platforms. We typically run around 10 curated campaigns each year. These events often include customized email campaigns, commissioned artwork, merchandise giveaways, and dedicated landing pages.

Examples of past events include Fontacular, Fonts In Action, 12 Days of Type, and Best New Fonts.

How Fonts Are Selected

Fonts are carefully curated for inclusion in these special events. All fonts are eligible as long as they meet the following criteria:

• Professional (see our type design information)
• Priced well (not too high and not too low! see our pricing guide)
• Have great marketing images (see our image best practices)
• Have a maximum discount of 30% (see our discount criteria)

For some campaigns, we reach out to all foundries to request submissions. Other campaigns are invite-only. If your fonts are selected, you may receive an email from our marketing team with an invitation to participate, along with a recommended discount for the event period.

When you agree to participate, the marketing team will set up the discounts for you. Please do not create overlapping discounts for the same time period.

Fair Exposure Across Foundries

Our marketing team makes a strong effort to feature a broad and diverse range of fonts and foundries. This helps customers discover new and lesser-known brands while ensuring fair exposure across our partner network.

• We typically include no more than four families from a single foundry in any one sales event
• Once a font family is included in a sales event, it is usually not featured again for at least 12 months

The main exceptions are foundry-wide discounts and the Best New Fonts event. Best New Fonts is not curated and is based purely on sales revenue for the year.

We have implemented some additional criteria for fonts to be included in marketing email newsletters that are sent to our customers based on extensive market research, A/B testing, and the results of real-world marketing campaigns. 
 

• Fonts included in standard marketing emails can have a maximum discount of 30% off. 
• Fonts that have a discount which results in a family package price less than $9 after the discount will not be eligible for inclusion in marketing email newsletters. 

The intent behind this criteria is to reduce the downward pressure on pricing that has been caused by promotions. This effort will make it easier for us to provide guidance for optimizing pricing in the future. Our analysis has shown that the deeper discounts are resulting in leaving a lot of dollars on the table. 

We don’t recommend creating discounts greater than these values, however you may still do so, but please know your fonts will not be eligible for inclusion in our marketing email newsletters. 

This policy went into effect January 2, 2025.

Please keep in mind the 45 day rule. Once a discount ends, prices cannot be changed for an additional 45 days. Once your font prices have been changed, you must wait 45 days before discounting the fonts.
