Overview.

Our promotional discount guidelines and rules are designed to enhance the premium experience of our users. While discounts can attract customers, frequent price reductions can diminish the perceived value of fonts. Maintaining a balance between offering promotions and preserving font quality is key to sustaining long-term customer trust and engagement.

How It Works.

The guidelines focus on limiting promotions and discounts to ensure MyFonts evolves into a hub for exploring and discovering typefaces while prioritizing quality and value

Key Updates:

• Promotion Limits: You can run up to 50 promotions annually, each with a maximum duration of 45 days ensuring you maintain the perceived value of your work.
• Discount Caps: Discounts are limited to a 30% maximum per promotion.
• Scheduled Promotions: You can now plan promotions for up to two years in advance, adhering to the annual limit of 50 promotions. Previously, there were no restrictions on how far ahead promotions could be scheduled
  (If the promotion cap exceeds the defined 30% limit, the error message: “Discount is too high” will be displayed.)

How to Manage and Edit Your Promotions:

When it comes to editing promotions, here's how it works:

• Active promotions: Certain fields, like the discount percentage and end date, are locked for changes to ensure consistency.
• Scheduled promotions: Most fields remain flexible for edits, except for the Foundry Name.
• Secret promotions: You can freely update fields like the Promotion Name or Secret Code at any time.
• Marketing team promotions: Promotions created by our marketing team will be non-editable. When you access the promotion from the dashboard, you will notice that the "Edit" and "Delete" buttons are greyed out, indicating that changes are not allowed.

We have designed these limits to keep the platform fair and organized while giving you enough flexibility to run impactful campaigns.

Commonly Asked Questions

1. Can Foundry Partners edit active promotions?
   No, fields like Foundry Name, Percentage Off, and End Date for non-secret promotions are locked. However, secret promotion fields such as Secret Code or Promotion Name can be edited.
2. Are there any restrictions on setting up promotions?
   Promotions on MyFonts are limited to a maximum of 50 per year, with each promotion capped at a 30% discount and a maximum duration of 45 days; all promotions must also comply with the platform’s guidelines to ensure quality and value.
3. Can I create a new promotion right after the previous one ends?
   You must wait 45 days after a promotion ends before setting up a new one using the same fonts. This is not a new rule.

You can set up limited-time promotions (also called discounts) for your fonts. These promotions will appear on MyFonts and help increase visibility. There is no cost to set up a promotion. 
Promotions for new fonts can only be created once installations are approved by a Foundry Support team member.

Promotion Rules

• Promotions can run for a maximum of 45 days.
• After a promotion ends, you must wait 45 days before changing prices or creating another promotion.
• You can create up to 50 promotions per year, so we recommend coordinating promotions with your broader marketing efforts.
• Discounts can be a maximum of 30 percent.
• You can schedule promotions up to two years in advance, within the yearly limit of 50 promotions.

Types of Promotions

You can create several types of discounts:

• Single style discount
• One or more sub-family packs
• Complete family pack only
• One or more font families (all singles and packs)
• Secret codes

Set Up a Promotion

1. Log in to Foundry Platform.
2. Click on Promotions in the menu.
3. Click the blue Create Promotion button.
4. Add a promotion name. This will be visible to customers, so include the discount percent.
5. If you manage multiple foundries, select the foundry to apply for the promotion too.
6. Enter the discount percent. We recommend choosing 30 percent or lower.
7. Optionally, add a secret code.
   • Customers can enter this code at checkout to receive the discount.
   • Secret code promotions do not appear on the Special Offers page, and the discount will not be shown on the family page.
   • Codes are case sensitive and can include letters and numbers only.

8. Choose a start date and end date. Promotions cannot exceed 45 days.
9. Select Fonts:
   • All fonts in my library will put every font in your selected foundry on sale.
   • Specific Fonts allow you to select families individually.
10. If using Specific Fonts, search or choose View All to select families.
11. After selecting families, choose which products to discount. You can check all boxes or choose specific items.
12. Review your promotion and click Submit. 
    Your promotion is approved automatically and appears on MyFonts immediately or on the scheduled date.

You can edit promotions directly in the Foundry Platform. Sign in with your MyFonts user credentials and follow the steps below.

How to Edit a Promotion

1. Click Promotions in the menu.
2. In the promotion dashboard, find the promotion you want to edit.
3. To view only active promotions, click Active.
4. Click the promotion row to open the promotion overview page.
5. At the bottom of the page, click Edit.
6. You can edit the following fields:
   • Promotion Title
   • Promotion Contents
7. Click Submit to save your changes.

Promotions That Cannot Be Edited

Certain promotion details are locked to ensure consistency for customers.

Promotion Discount

The discount percentage cannot be edited. This protects the discount that has already been marketed. 
If you need to change the discount percent, delete the promotion and create a new one.

Promotion Dates

Promotion dates cannot be edited once the promotion is live. Customers can see the start and end dates, so durations must stay consistent. 
If you need to adjust the timeline, delete the promotion and create a new one.

Special Event Promotions

For special events, our marketing team may create promotions for you. These promotions cannot be edited or deleted. 
When you open these promotions in the dashboard, the Edit and Delete buttons will be greyed out.

How to Delete a Promotion

1. Click Promotions in the menu.
2. In the promotion’s dashboard, find the promotion you want to delete.
   • You can filter the list to show only active promotions by selecting Active.
3. Click the promotion row to open the promotion overview page.
4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Delete.

Important Note

Please note that you must follow the 45 Day Rule when editing or deleting promotions. This ensures consistency and prevents misuse of price changes and promotional timing.

One type of promotion you can create is called a Secret Code. A secret code is an alphanumeric code that you share privately with customers. When customers enter this code at checkout, they can receive your fonts for free or at a discount. 
Secret code promotions do not appear publicly on MyFonts.

FAQ

Can I run a regular promotion at the same time as a secret code

No. You cannot run a secret code promotion and a regular discount on the same family at the same time.

How long can secret codes run

Public discounts can run for a maximum of 45 days, but secret code promotions can run for longer than 45 days.

Are there restrictions for secret code text

Yes.

• Secret codes are case sensitive
• They must be longer than 6 characters
• We recommend keeping them under 12 characters, so they remain easy for customers to use

Who decides discounts on MyFonts

Foundries have full control over their own discounts. MyFonts does not discount any product without the foundry’s permission.

Do I need to pay to set up a discount

No. There is no cost to create or run a discount on our sites.

Are there any restrictions on setting up discounts

Yes. The 45 Day Rule applies to both discounts and price changes. This ensures fonts are sold at their actual price most of the time and prevents price manipulation.

• Promotions can last for a maximum of 45 days
• After a promotion ends, you must wait 45 days before creating another promotion or changing prices

Additional rules include:

• A maximum of 50 promotions per year
• Discounts can be no higher than 30 percent

Because of these limits, we recommend using promotions strategically and aligning them with your broader marketing plans.

How do my fonts appear on MyFonts when discounted

When your discount is active:

• Your family will appear on the Special Offers page
• High performing promotions may appear in the Special Offers banner on the home page
• The discount appears on the family page in the upper right corner as a red flag
• A discount badge showing the percentage off appears on your family listing, in search results, and on pages such as Hot New Fonts, What’s New, Bestsellers, your designer page, and your foundry page

Many foundries choose to release their fonts with a limited time introductory discount. Why is this

Approaches vary, and the decision depends on each foundry’s marketing strategy. Generally, introductory discounts help build excitement when a font is first released. Early sales can help your font appear on the Hot New Fonts page, which increases visibility.

It is also important to generate sales early to establish a base of users. The more people who use the font, the more likely others are to purchase it in the future, whether for compatibility with shared documents or to stay aligned with current trends.
