Whether you’re just getting starting selling with us or you've been with us since the beginning, you’ll use the Foundry Platform tool to submit a new font.

All changes are saved automatically while you’re creating your submission! If you have to close the page, you can always continue your submission later by opening the in-progress submission in your dashboard.

💭 A note about font families

Think about a submission in Foundry Platform like this: 1 submission = 1 family page on MyFonts. Your submission can contain files set up or style-linked as different 'font families' so they appear in customer's font menus however you would like. 

Let’s get started!

Click the “Submit a new font” button to begin your submission.

Step 1: Upload one font family

1. If you manage multiple foundries, select the one you want to release the font to from the dropdown.
2. Drag and drop your font files into the importer. Our system will check for technical issues in each file and how they interact within the family. To avoid rejection, follow these guidelines:
   • Limit individual file sizes to under 52MB, and you can upload up to 200 font files at once.
   • Do not upload zip files. Only OTF and TTF formats are accepted. Allowed combinations: OT CFF + OT TTFV, OT TTF/TT + OT TTFV, and TT + OT TTFV.
   • We recommend reviewing the MyFonts Recommended Character Set. Fonts that don't meet the set may be rejected.  
3. Our system will show any errors found in your fonts. Click “Show font test results” to view the tests run by our validator, designed to prevent customer issues and refunds.
   • Yellow warnings will not prevent submission.
   • Red errors will prevent submission.
   • Malware Scanning: Every file you upload is automatically scanned for malware to ensure both your submission and the platform are secure. If a threat is detected, the font file will be automatically removed, and you'll be notified. You can correct the issue and re-upload the clean file. This process ensures a safe environment for all Foundry Partners.
4. Review your font name and style names.
5. For multiple weights with traditional naming, arrange fonts from lightest to heaviest. Use the arrows to drag and drop the styles in the correct order.
6. Add designer names. If you can't find a designer, email us at foundrysupport@monotype.com to create the listing.
7. Select a default display style to represent the family. This will appear on the family page and in search results. We recommend selecting the Regular weight or the style that best represents the family.

Step 2: Define prices

1. Prices are required to be in USD, both for each style and your complete family pack (if applicable). Read more about choosing a successful pricing strategy here.
2. This price will be converted to other currencies automatically based on the USD price, and you can see them in the preview section. They will update automatically with any major currency fluctuations.
3. If you would like to overwrite this conversion to a fixed price, feel free to do so by typing in the boxes corresponding to each currency.
4. For families with multiple styles, you can apply the same price across styles. Simply click the arrow icon that appears next to your price in the first style.
5. For families with multiple styles, you can create up to five sub family packs. Simply name your family pack, select the fonts you wish to be in the sub-family pack, and add a price.

Step 3: Add descriptions

1. Add a description that will appear on your font family page. Great font descriptions inspire customers to buy and use your fonts. We recommend keeping your descriptions to less than 500 words. Think about the keywords used in the description, which will be analyzed by search engines to rank and display typefaces to customers. Take time to ensure your description is written thoughtfully and completely. Consider including information about the inspiration behind the design of the font, included features such as OpenType features and alternates, and what makes this font unique in the category. 2. Add tags for your family. You can copy and paste or type in a list of tags. You can read more about our tagging guidelines by referring to the article Tagging Your Font Families for Success.

Step 4: Upload your images

1. Use images to show off your font family. Images appear in a carousel at the top of your font family page, on pages like “What’s New”, and in search results. Read more about designing successful marketing images here. Your files must match this criteria in order to be accepted:
   • Quantity: 5 - 15 images
   • Size: Image proportions must be a 2:1 ratio. We recommend 2000 x 1000 px for retina screens. Minimum size is 1440 x 720 px.
   • File type: PNG
   • Malicious Image Detection: If a malicious image is detected, you will be notified to re-submit malware-free images or posters. This information will be displayed at the bottom of the page alongside any other submission issues.
   • We will not accept images containing racist, sexist, religious, or political content. Please also refrain from using expletives.
   • Do not display prices on images.
   • Do not display discounts on images.
2. Delete images by clicking the white x in the bottom right corner of each image. Reorder images by clicking and dragging them in the desired order.

Final Steps

1. Click “Generate Preview” to see your submission recap. Double check before submitting. You will not be able to go back and edit once it has been submitted!
2. The Foundry Support team will review your submission within 24 hours of the next business day. They will either approve your submission to go live, send your submission back to you with questions or a request to make changes, or your font will be rejected.
3. Leave a note for the foundry support staff and we’d be happy to help you.
4. You can schedule your font family to be released as soon as possible or select a date on the calendar.
5. Click submit and you’re done! 🎉

Follow these ten best practices to make your font release clearer, more discoverable, and more likely to succeed. Each tip is based on user research and real-world experience from foundries who sell successfully on our platform.

1. Think about your customer

Who are you making fonts for, and what do they need? Keep your customer in mind while designing fonts and when you prepare marketing materials for a release. A customer-focused approach makes your work easier to find and more appealing to buy.

2. Think about the competition

Before you prepare marketing assets, pretend you’re a font buyer searching for a font in the same style. Use online search or tools like WhatTheFont to locate similar fonts. Ask: What else is available? What are they priced at? How does your font differ in larger character set, extra features, better kerning? Emphasize those differences to help customers choose your family. According to the 2019 Font Purchasing Habits Survey, the features customers care most about are: 1) number of styles, 2) kerning & spacing, and 3) alternates & ligatures. Use those points to compare and highlight your strengths.

3. Make compelling images

Images are often the primary influence on a customer’s decision. Our testing, site analytics, and customer feedback show that strong visuals are crucial. Treat your images as the packaging or label for your font: they should show the font in real use on products, in mock logos, posters, or photographic layouts, so customers can imagine the font in their own work. Avoid relying only on flat, academic specimens; instead mix practical specimens (to show features) with emotive, inspirational panels. Want examples? 4. Develop your customer base

Build an audience, prepare your own email list, social followers, or website visitors who care about your work. When you drive people to your font pages, MyFonts amplifies that traffic: more visitors increase search ranking and exposure. MyFonts receives roughly 350,000 unique site visitors per month on average in the US alone! Use your channels to drive that traffic and magnify your marketing.

5. Spread out your releases

Avoid releasing multiple families on the same day. Stagger releases on a regular cadence (for example, weekly or every three weeks) so each family gets its time on the What’s New list. If you release everything at once, they’ll slide down together and your foundry will stop appearing frequently on the list. Fonts that reach the Hot New Fonts list remain there for 45 days; if you release many families on one day, they’ll all leave the list at the same time. The only time to release multiple families together is when they’re related (for example, a set of different-width families for the same typeface).

6. Create as few packages as possible

Simplicity helps sales. Our research shows buyers prefer fewer purchase options, aim for no more than three packages per family. Clear choices reduce friction and improve conversions.

7. Price your family packs strategically

A recommended price for a complete family pack is roughly 3-6× the price of a single font. This range encourages customers to buy the full family instead of only a style or two. It’s a starting point test and see what works for your fonts, and you can also see our pricing guide for more detail here.

8. Be strategic about discounts

Discounts drive visits. When promoting a sale, show the discount amount and create urgency by stressing limited availability but don’t put dates on poster images (time zones can confuse customers). We recommend running discounts for the full 45 days so as many visitors as possible can see them. If you run shorter promotions, align your marketing to clearly communicate the limited timeframe.

9. Make your font description user-friendly

Write descriptions with customers and search in mind. Include SEO-friendly keywords and useful details like font features, language support, and anything that distinguishes your family from millions of others. Explain what inspired the design and what makes it a smart choice.

10. Perform a thorough quality check before release

Test your font files on both Macs and PCs. Review descriptions, images, and tags for spelling and grammar so your font is presented professionally and compellingly to customers.

All new fonts submitted to MyFonts go through a review process to check for technical quality and completeness. This ensures that every submission performs well for customers. While we never evaluate stylistic choices, we do review core technical elements such as naming, digitization quality, character set completeness, and marketing images.

To reduce the chances of rejection, review the points below and carefully check your font files before submitting them through the Monotype Foundry Platform. If your submission is rejected, we’ll explain why. After you address the feedback, you’re welcome to resubmit your updated files for review.

Below are the main categories we evaluate and common reasons a font may be rejected.

Character Set

We recommend that your fonts meet our minimum required character set. This includes characters needed for most Latin-based languages, common currency symbols, and essential characters customers expect to find.

Exceptions include dingbat or icon fonts, or certain highly decorative display fonts. Fonts that support more languages naturally appeal to a broader customer base.

A font may be rejected if:

• A large number of characters are missing
• Basic characters (such as the comma) are missing
• Characters are drawn incorrectly (e.g., backwards symbols, misplaced diacritics)
• Punctuation and symbols don’t match the weight or style of the rest of the font

Ensuring accuracy and completeness helps customers rely on your work.

Font Naming

We closely review font names to avoid conflicts with existing names on MyFonts, and to check for trademarks or copyright concerns. Research shows customers respond best to names that are clear, memorable, and easy to pronounce.

Inconsistent or incorrect naming across your submission such as family name, weight names, file names, descriptions, or images, can also lead to rejection.

A font name may be rejected if it:

• Matches an existing font name on MyFonts
• Is too similar to an existing name (e.g., “Madeline” vs. “Madelyn,” or adding vague words like “the”)
• Appears to be a misspelling of a common word, place, or person
• Uses only typography-related terms like “Font,” “Mono,” “Standard,” “Unavailable,” etc.
• References existing businesses, celebrities, movies, or musical groups

If you legally own the rights to use a name, leave a note for Foundry Support in your new font submission to avoid delays.

Overall Design

We evaluate glyph construction and the overall design quality of your font. Well-designed glyphs use minimal points, smooth curves, and clean straight lines.

A font may be rejected if:

• Overlaps or inverted characters haven’t been removed
• Spacing is incorrect (e.g., upright glyphs not centered in the glyph box)
• Only a single weight is offered for a Sans or Serif family, since customers expect multiple weights
• Script fonts have broken or inconsistent connections
• Curves look auto-traced or lumpy, or design elements appear inconsistent

Our goal is to ensure your font meets modern technical standards and customer expectations.

Marketing Images

Marketing images play a significant role in how customers evaluate a font, so we review them carefully.

A font may be rejected if images are:

• Pixelated or stretched
• Visually inconsistent or overly busy
• Poorly coordinated or lacking a unified visual theme
• Containing spelling or grammar errors
• Including inappropriate, offensive, or political content
• Showing price or discount text

Strong images showcase real-world use cases — mock logos, product mockups, layouts, or panels that highlight features like alternates, ligatures, swashes, and OpenType capabilities. Photography can be especially effective.

Aim for a small set of images (5 or more) that feel cohesive and use a consistent color palette.

Plagiarism

MyFonts does not accept fonts that appear plagiarized. This includes:

• Modified copies of existing fonts
• Designs identical or nearly identical to existing fonts
• Fonts derived technically from other fonts without permission

We assume good intentions from designers, but partners must act ethically and only submit fonts they are legally allowed to sell. If you have explicit rights or permission to build a font based on an existing design, leave a note for Foundry Support in your submission.

Free Fonts

MyFonts is not a platform for free fonts. We do not accept fonts priced at $0, nor do we sell fonts that are freely available elsewhere.

Demo versions, however, are allowed. You can offer a free demo version of your font elsewhere while selling the full version on MyFonts, as long as the demo is a modified version — for example:

• reduced character set
• altered glyphs
• missing punctuation
• “not def” or “tofu” symbols

Demo fonts should provide enough information for customers to evaluate the design, and the full version remains the paid, production-ready product.

You’re welcome to offer one or two free styles from a larger family as a promotional strategy, this is common and often effective.

You can track the status of your submission directly from the dashboard in the Foundry Platform. Each status reflects where your font family is in the review process and what actions, if any, you may need to take.

Submission Status Types

In progress

This status means your font family has not yet been submitted to Foundry Support for review. 
Click the font family to open the in-progress submission.

• Use Generate preview to check for any errors preventing submission.
• Address these errors before you submit your family for review.

In review

Your font family has been submitted and will be reviewed soon by Foundry Support. No action is required from you at this stage.

In correction

Your submission has been returned with a request for changes.

• Click the submission to view the feedback.
• Make the necessary updates and resubmit your files for review.

Rejected

Your submission has been rejected?

• Click the submission to see the detailed reasons for rejection.
• After making improvements based on this feedback, you are encouraged to submit the updated files again.

Approved

Your font family has been approved and will appear on MyFonts within 24 hours, or on the release date you selected. 
Please note: it may take up to 24 hours for approved families to show in the Released families section, where you can then edit them.

How Feedback Is Shared

When a Foundry Support team member reviews your submission, they may include a note with feedback or questions.

You will receive this note through an automated email once your font is reviewed. You can also view the message directly by clicking the submission in your dashboard.

• If your status is in correction, the note will outline the changes needed before resubmission.
• If your status is Rejected, the note will explain the reasons for rejection and provide guidance to help you submit an improved version in the future.
