As a type designer, you may need to occasionally update fonts you've already released. This may be to fix bugs, after adding additional characters or features, or after completely overhauling your design! There are two possibilities for updating fonts:
Updating an existing family
If the update is more standard (bug fixes, additional characters added, a few new styles, etc) then we recommend simply updating the existing font family in Foundry Platform. Customers who previously purchased your fonts will see a link to download the new font files in their order history on MyFonts, and a note from you describing the issues fixed or changes made to the files.
Please note that updating an older family will not cause it to be "re-released" and will not make it eligible to appear on the What’s New page or Hot New Fonts. Updating fonts in families that are less than 50 days old will not impact their eligibility for these pages; they will still appear in What's New and be eligible for Hot New Fonts.
You can update existing font files on Foundry Platform. Check out this guide for instructions!
Setting up a new family
If the update is major (many new styles, significant changes to the design, etc) you have the option of simply making a brand new family. You can submit a brand new family through Foundry Platform. Read this guide for detailed instructions about how to submit a brand new font.
Please note that if you choose to create a new family, the family name and URLs will have to be different from the existing font family. Often foundries will do this by adding “Pro” to the name or releasing the font with a brand new name. By releasing a new family, it will appear on the What’s New page and be eligible for placement on Hot New Fonts list in MyFonts. Email us at foundrysupport@monotype.com and we can deactivate the existing, older fonts if you choose to remove them. Please note that if you choose to release a brand new family, customers who purchased fonts previously will not receive updates to the fonts.
