Who decides discounts on MyFonts?
Foundries control their own discounts, and we never discount products without the foundry's permission. Learn how to set up discounts here.
Do I need to pay to set up a discount on MyFonts?
Nope! There is no cost to set up a discount on MyFonts.
Are there any restrictions on setting up discounts?
We have the “45 Day Rule” for discounts and price changes. This is to ensure that fonts are sold at their actual price a majority of the time and to prevent price manipulation.
The 45 Day Rule
Discounts can last a maximum of 45 days.
You must wait 45 days after your last discount or price change before starting another discount or changing the prices again.
How do my fonts appear on MyFonts.com when discounted?
Your font family will appear on the Special Offers page for the duration of the discount. Promotions that are performing well will appear in the Special Offers banner on the home page. The discount is highlighted on the family page at the top left corner, in the style list using red strike throughs, and your promo image will appear as the first image in the carousel on your family page. When the discount ends, your promo image will automatically disappear from the carousel. A pink discount badge showing the discount percent will appear on your family listing and on any list pages like search results, Hot New Fonts, What’s New, Bestsellers, your designer page, and your foundry page.
Many foundries choose to release their fonts with a limited time introductory discount. Why is this?
The goal is to drive excitement about your font when it is first released. If your font is purchased by many people in the beginning, it will appear on the popular Hot New Fonts page, where it will be more visible to customers. It is also important to generate sales when the font family first comes out in order to establish a base of people using the font. The more people using the font, the more people will purchase the font in the future - whether to be “on trend” or for document compatibility reasons.
What is the most effective discount percent?
Today, limited-time discounts between 50% - 60% are the most effective. The 2016 Font Purchasing Habits Survey found that the average discount desired by customers was 56%. This doesn’t necessarily mean set your discounts at 56% exactly, but instead means that discounts around this amount are resonating with customers. Discounts that are too low - 25% or lower - aren’t enticing and don’t drive the volume of sales that make the discounts effective. However, if your discount is too high, the fonts will be too cheap and you’ll end up leaving money on the table. The goal is to find the right balance. We do not recommend discounting fonts above 75%.
